A brief history of the Château du Châtelard, owned by the family of Gérard Fornerod, Baron of Châtelard.
Around the year 1000, wooden fortifications were constructed on the site, these were known collectively as " a Châtelard", hence the name of the castle. On the base of the existing fortress, the castle was built by Jean de Gingins in 1441, a Lord who was anxious to preserve the security of the inhabitants of the Montreux region whilst increasing its admittance capacity. The Barony was granted to the castle by Duc Philippe le Bel de Savoie. In the 17th century the magnificent Keep of the castle was transformed into a comfortable dwelling with all the characteristics of a palace. Today there are more than 2500m2 of rental space amongst which two of the most magnificent 17th century apartments have been miraculously preserved. In 1981 Gérard Fornerod purchased the domain of the Château du Châtelard, and has since been striving to renovate and transform it into an exceptional historical location for culture, entertainment and business. |
